Legitimacy of Special Bundestag Sessions After the 2025 Election

On March 13, 2025, the Bundestag gathers for a special session to hold the first reading of bills that will amend the constitution. The goal is to allow for military spending unlimited by the constitutional debt brake. On top, a special debt program of 500 billion Euro for infrastructure spending is planned. These far-ranging decisions are to be made by the old Bundestag shortly before the new Parliament, resulting from the February 23 election, is constituted.
